Baddie Roma publicly expressed support for Cebu-based drag artist Sheng Mai after sharing a SunStar Cebu photo gallery documenting a September 21 protest along Colon Street.
In a post accompanying the shared images, Roma wrote, “Always fighting for Filipinos. @shengmai_ I love you! 🇵🇭🤍” The post tagged Sheng Mai, whose appearance at the demonstration was prominently featured in the SunStar Cebu coverage.
The images show Sheng Mai in white drag attire participating in the protest alongside demonstrators. Other photographs show protesters carrying placards and political artwork, while one image depicts tomatoes being thrown at images of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte.
SunStar Cebu’s caption said the action was organized by progressive groups led by Bagong Alyansang Makabayan-Central Visayas and student organizations. The protest took place on September 21, marking the anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law.
Sheng Mai has previously used drag as part of political and social advocacy. A 2025 report by Rolling Stone Philippines described Mai as a drag artist and University of the Philippines Cebu student who participated in a September 21 protest in Cebu. Mai told the publication that drag served as a form of expression and resistance.
More recent coverage has likewise described Sheng Mai as a political science student, athlete and drag performer whose work crosses performance and advocacy.
The exchange between Roma and Sheng Mai also appeared to be reciprocal. In the screenshots provided, Sheng Mai responded to Roma’s post with “ilyyyyy 😍,” accompanied by a heart-eyes emoji.
Roma’s post therefore placed a personal message of support alongside images from a politically charged public demonstration, highlighting the connection between the two Cebu-based personalities and Mai’s use of drag in public advocacy.
